The answer in short to the question. Does lotto history effect Lotto winnings? Is yes and no. So whilst you may see patterns, you have to always remember that Lotto and lotteries are a RANDOM game of chance. NOW in case you missed it today we have a bit of a history lesson for you.

Intralot Australia, which operates under "Intralot" in Victoria and Tasmania;

State government owned lotteries include New South Wales Lotteries, operating in Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. Lotterywest, operates in Western Australia and South Australian Lotteries.

These are just some of the players in the lotteries industry and states in which games licensed by lottery companies in Australia are availible. All Australian operators of Lotteries are licensed or ruled by the states or territory level. Lotteries are or can be run by both state private sector or governments and companies.

Though Australian lotteries are mostly state based, in Australia we have a number of national lottery games. Tattersall's the founder of the Australian Lotteries and other state owned lotteries are operating as the Lotto bloc. These national games, share or pooll not only the entry fees but also the winnings.

For example, Tattersalls administers the Saturday Lotto (known as Tattslotto in its jurisdictions), Oz Lotto and Powerball games on behalf of the bloc;

The various Australian states subject the lotteries in which they are run to strict regulations, these vary state to state but I believe they are ruled by the federal treasury department overall. To play the Lottery you must be a person of age of 16 or 18 years, or older dependant on your state.

Australian Gold Lotto as we know it today was originally started as Tatts lotto. The first draw took place way back on June 24 1972. The Lotto draws are televised live on air having 3 witnesses or officials, two government representatives and one Tattersalls official. The last draw before being split up into the lotto bloc was On February 28 1981.

On March 7 1981 the Australian Gold Lotto game we know and love to play, did the first draw. The lotto draw consisted of just 6 numbers and 1 sup. From what was originally based on the Europes lottery style. That is six numbers selected out of 40 in a standard game. This style of draw continued until 29 June 1985. Because of the addition of an extra sup and the current standard game format, six from 45, was introduced on 6 July 1985 people were able to have a bit more of a challenge. Often this new ball and extra numbers would allow more people to win lower and even higher prizes.

Lotto Superdraw and Megadraw history

In Australia we have a couple of times a year when we get a chance to cash in on the real big lotto prizes. These are commonly known as the Lotto Superdraws which can happen up to seven times a year or more. We end up having a collective jackpot with a larger than normal and guaranteed prize pool. Each weekly draw has a portion of funds held in an account which gets put towards the Lotto Superdraw and Megadraw and other special draws

The Lotto Megadraw usually happens as the last Saturday draw for the year. This was started at the end of 1999 to celebrate the new Millennium. It was known as the Millennium Megadraw, drawn December 31 1999. The last Australian Lotto Megadraw for 2009 with a $30 million prize pool, just happened to be drawn on Saturday 2nd January 2010.

As more people are being attracted to the lotto Superdraws is actually becoming easier to get higher prize payouts. In our opinion you do get an increase in value for money due to the higher prize pools. Which are usually mucher greater than regular lotto draws that is compared to your entry cost. However that being said winning the Lotto is still quite hard. Even with all our history, experience and tools, we still don't have a win everytime. Many people feel better playing lotto on Superdraws thinking the odds or chance of winning improves BUT the odds are the same.
